Dog Waste Removal in Olympia

Coming down I-5 the marker is the old brewhouse, the six-story redbrick tower at Tumwater Falls just south of the Olympia line. It went up in 1906, brewing stopped on that site in 2003, and the tower now belongs to the City of Tumwater. Thousands of people use it as a landmark every day without ever having been inside it, Marq included. It is the sign that the Thurston County end of the route has started.

What defines the work in Olympia is lot size. Marq's read on this town is a lot of small fenced yards, and small is the whole story. The state capital built out around a downtown core and a lot of the residential stock reflects that, modest lots with the usable grass fenced off behind the house. A small enclosed yard does not dilute anything. The same dog producing the same amount in Frederickson spreads it across half an acre, and here it lands in a few hundred square feet the family also wants to use for a barbecue. That is why the complaint that brings people to a pooper scooper service in Olympia is almost never that they cannot find it. They can find it. There is nowhere for it to be that is not underfoot.

Thurston County's weather does the rest. Marq's summary of winter ground conditions across the entire service area was soggy and wet, with no town getting off easier than another, and a small yard is where that hurts most. There is no dry corner to rotate to. The grass stays saturated from November into spring, the same patch takes all the traffic, and waste left on ground that never dries stops breaking down and starts sitting. A yard that could go two weeks in August genuinely cannot in February.

Martin Way is how the town connects. It is a seven-mile former state highway running through Olympia and Lacey and functions as the local alternative to I-5, which makes it the spine we route the Thurston end of the week around. If you are off Martin, we are already coming past you.

On a small fenced yard, weekly is not a luxury tier, it is the schedule that keeps the space usable. Bi-weekly is fine for one dog in the dry months and gets thin by December. A one-time reset after a long wet stretch is the most common way people here start, and most convert to weekly once they see the yard empty. Whatever we pick up goes with us, not into your bin.
